Search Engine Optimization is a subject with many unknown variables. Google doesn’t divulge how their search engine works and many try to break the code. For that reason there are a lot of theories that are often unproved. The way to check those hypotheses is to perform a chain of experiments like Commission Blueprint did with their PR to content link experiment. They have tested lots of sites over a period of a year. This sort of test is statistically significant and proves the theory. In this case, BTW, the relationship of PR and content was shown to be non-existent.
